Introductions

For years I’ve tried to find a reason, a purpose.  Something to strive for.  Something to which every day I can ask of myself “did today bring me closer”.

I know it sounds cliche, but its something a lot of people face at this point in their lives.  Growing up, I’ve always had clear goals.  Graduate from high school.  Get into college.  Graduate from college.  Get a job.  Now that I’ve done all that, what next?  What am I working towards?  Whats the point of this whole “career” thing?

Maybe 6 months ago I started to wonder where the hell I was going.  I started to occur to me that I was sinking into this comfortable indifferent world where I ignore most of whats around meand just relish in the lavish lifestyle that the young professional world provides.  Anyways… my first temptation was towards getting involved in a youth ministry or going to seminary.  But, that didn’t feel right.  I started looking again.  Around then, I started to take notice of some of the absurdities in the world around us.  I started to notice the uneccessary suffering of so many people.  Hurricane Katrina.  Civilians suffering in Lebanon and Iraq.  There are so many problems in the world… and I started to wonder why no one seems to be doing much about them.  There is so much money among the wealthy in America.  So much potential to change the world and radically reduce the suffering all around us.  Then it occurred to me: I can’t depend on other people to do what needs to be done.  I can’t rely on those in power, or those with wealth.  In fact… I shouldn’t.  I have a responsibility.  As an American who has a very comfortable life, and a good education… I have the responsibility to do everything in my power to help others.  To use my talents and my circumstances to better the world.

I’ve found my purpose.  I’ve found my goal.  This time it feels right.  This is finally the clarity I’ve been searching for.  Starting today, every day is another step towards making a major impact on the world.
This blog is the product of Defo and I realizing this is what we want to do with ourselves.  This blog is how we will share, learn, document ideas, and make sure we are staying focused on our goals.
